Specifically, the study was aimed at finding out why godfathers are driven by the sense of self-enrichment, using godsons as surrogates to promote their parochial interest; compare and contrast the consensus sense of electoral system by political godfathers within democratic setting; analyze why political godsons are being robbed of their independent rational sense of judgement and personal dignity by their godfathers; and carry out appropriate investigations into the performance and conduct of the godfathers and the behaviour of their political godsons during the period of canvassing for an election. For instance, giving of oath by political godfathers to political godsons. The study employed the survey descriptive research design. A total of 105 responses were validated from the survey. From the responses obtained and analysed, the findings revealed that political godfatherism is deeply rooted in the political system of the state, thus for the challenge of godfatherism to be addressed, there is a need for proactive and sustainable efforts involving each political stakeholder to adequately address these menace to the growth of democracy. The study, therefore, recommends the National Orientation Agency should intensify efforts in the reorientation of the politicians and the employers of labour in the public bureaucracy to enable them know the evils inherent in the politics of godfatherism. Moreso, Less emphasis should be placed on money for those seeking political office, rather emphasis should be placed on the credibility of the candidate seeking political office. This would discourage intending political office holders from seeking assistance from sponsors who turn out to be political godfathers and thus rely on their ability to convince the electorate to vote them into office. It would further enhance their sense of responsibility to the people and not to a select few (godfathers) who manipulated them into office.
